DION LEE RESORT 18 COLLECTION....

Written by Nicole Oraha

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2017 officially kicked off with a hit on Sunday 14th May, starring Dion Lee as the opening show – and I wish I was there in the audience to witness it all.

Dion Lee is one of Australia’s most well-known designers internationally, showing his collections in London and New York, with New York becoming his second home for the brand. The designer took Sydney’s most influential celebrities, bloggers, designers and media to the prestigious Opera House, where he showcased his Resort 18 collection. He was the first designer to present a show at the Sydney Opera House back in 2010, with his Resort 18 collection being the fourth show at the same sensational landmark.

His collection consisted of bold colours such as red and blues, silk fabrics twisted and intertwined around the figure, impeccable structure and precision with cut out fabrics and tailored suits - which the designer is renowned for. Not only did he create a women’s line, he also dropped a menswear line that included classic black pants and blazers, perfectly fitting in with the brands aesthetic, staying true to brand.

The location, outside Sydney Opera House, was impeccable, making the show stopper as it was the most talked about show and posted all over social media. It truly was one of the most anticipated shows of the season.

Dion Lee surely delivered a remarkable show at an iconic location, leaving fashion’s elite attendees amazed.

SASS AND BIDE RESORT 18 COLLECTION...

Written by Nicole Oraha

After long 14 years, Sass and Bide have made an ultimate comeback to MBFWA 2017, showcasing their resort 18 collection at Carriageworks – and they surely did deliver an unforgettable collection yet again!

The highly anticipated show had a full house of fashion influencers and A-listers, including Jennifer Hawkins and Elyse Taylor. This was an unmissable show, as the Australian brand hasn’t showcased a collection in a while. Sass and Bide is the label everyone wants in their closet and is seen in quite a lot editorials in Australian magazines, therefore Australian fashionistas couldn’t wait to see what they would bring to the table this time.

The directors behind the brand were inspired by Barcelona and the architecture and artwork within the beautiful city.  The runway was met with bright reds and oranges, as well as the brand’s well-known heavily embellishment including sequins, beads and fringing and the use of texture. The use of texture and  patterns. The resort 18 collection had a touch of playfulness and a feminine feel with gold and silver sequins, metallic and soft pleats and tassels.

I especially loved their new innovative techniques and the inspiration of art and culture within their theme “Fiesta Barcelona”. It was feminie, well-constructed and lavish with all the shimmering beads and sequins.

The brand proved yet again that they can still make an impressive return with their artistic and striking creations.
